Deputy Chief Justice Dikgang Moseneke revealed that Mandela’s estate is valued at R46 million, and excluded the monies left in three trusts.
Moseneke confirmed that Mandela and Graça Machel had been married in community of property, and that Machel had 90-days to confirm if she would waive her claim to 50% of the estate.
Mosekene did not disclose how much individual family members would receive.
Mandela left R50 000 to each of his personal employees, including his former personal assistant Zelda La Grange and his cook Xoliswa Ndoyiya.
Mandela also left money to a number of educational institutions, which include Qunu High School, the University of the Witwatersrand and Fort Hare University — which all received a sum of R100 000.
He also left R100 000 to Orlando West High School for its contribution to the liberation of the country.
Mandela bequeathed R1,5 million to the Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela Family Trust. He also left royalties to the trust of which a percentage would be given to the African National Congress.
To view the full will — including allocations to his family members — the public would have to apply to the Master of Court.
